On the trail of Caravaggio
On this Caravaggio tour, you’ll have an unforgettable journey through the world of one of the greatest artists of all time. Caravaggio represents a huge milestone in the history of Italian painting. After 4 centuries, Caravaggio’s life is still very fascinating not only due to his great talent but also because of the amount of mystery still surrounding his turbulent life.
We’ll retrace Caravaggio’s steps through early 17th-century Rome and together we’ll visit places where he left some of the most spectacular works of his life:
- the church of San Luigi dei Francesi, where we will see 3 paintings of Caravaggio dedicated to Saint Matthew.
- the church of Sant’Agostino, a stone’s throw from the Piazza Navona, with its beautiful Madonna di Loreto (or Madonna of the Pilgrims)
- finally, Santa Maria del Popolo, a beautiful Renaissance church that houses two works by the artist dedicated to Saint Peter and Saint Paul.
During this Caravaggio tour, you will hear about the life of one the most beloved and revolutionary Italian painters, led by his fiery temperament to a turbulent life. Caravaggio’s life will end with his desperate flight from Rome after the assassination of a man during a furious brawl. We will walk through the streets where he used to spend his time after his arrival in Rome in 1595. Finally, we’ll see from the outside some of the palaces where he lived.
